For our first throw, we collaborated with a family of tenth generation weavers on a monochromatic design that marries traditional motifs with a minimal aesthetic.
It’s lightweight cotton and large size make it perfect for your bed, sofa, or even a picnic blanket. Named for the river that flows into the Great Rann of Kutch. The Luni throw features charcoal colored decorative tassels and traditional motifs including dhoklo (drum) and chomak (four-sided lamp), the family’s signature design. Best of all, the Luni throw is a true Sunday / Monday textile, equally beautiful and usable on both sides.
- Handwoven in Kutch, Gujarat, India.
- 88” x 105” (shown on queen size bed)
- 100% Indian cotton
- Naturally dyed
- Hand wash or machine wash cold separately, line dry
The yarn used in the motifs and tassels is first naturally dyed with iron and jaggery to create the charcoal hue. Next it is hand spun before being woven by hand with a cream-colored cotton in a traditional 4 treadle, fly shuttle pit-loom. All the motifs are added by the hand insertion of extra wefts, almost like embroidery, a speciality of the Kutch region.
Due to the nature of handmade goods, slight variations will occur making each piece one of a kind.
